Building & Construction
The crane is the national bird of China, which is appropriate for a country that has witnessed over a decade of double-digit growth in its construction sector. Many of the of investment dollars that have flowed into the nation have been channeled into the construction of homes, offices, factories, plants, hospitals, schools, municipal buildings, not to mention large public infrastructure projects.
In 2008, a total of 2.25 trillion RMB was spent on building materials in the domestic market and a further estimated 1.5 trillion RMB spent on infrastructure, with the Olympic Games and stimulus package-related expenditure important components of this.
Despite these large numbers, low-end products account for most of the sales in the sector. High-end / high-priced products make up less than five percent of total revenues. However, as China gets richer, it is demanding better quality, durability and greenness from its buildings and infrastructure.
GCiS is regularly commissioned by companies seeking to become more competitive in this sector. Recent work has included a competitive study of the market for construction tools, a feasibility study of the market for decorative coatings and a full market study of China's green building materials market.
